Phil Michelson Announced For Valero Texas Open

The tournament officials at the Valero Texas Open have announced on Wednesday that Phil Mickelson will be joining the rooster for the tournament this year. This will be a huge addition to the tournament which featured young star Rory McElroy and this time they have managed to rope in Phil Mickelson in the tournament which will take place at the TPC San Antonio.

The left handed golfing legend was forced to skip the Bay Hill event, but has confirmed that he will be there before he goes ahead to take part in the Masters.   The 43 year old veteran has had a shaky start to the season with a missed cut, a withdrawal and not a single finish better than the 16th.

It will be homecoming for Phil Mickelson who last played at Texas at 1992 when he was playing in his rookie year. In 1992, he tied for the 47th place when the tournament took place at the Oaks Hills Country Club.

The addition of Mickelson will further bolster the lineup at the Texas Open which already included established names like Jim Furyk, Matt Kuchar, Jimmy Walker and also Sergio Garcia.

The organizers were quite happy to announce the rooster very early this year, as McElroy was an eleventh hour signing for the event and it presented some problems as it was just a week before the Masters.

The event has created a lot of hype in the media already as it features such established names and according to the organizers, the ticket sales are really picking up. The Texas Open has always been famous for including the top names of golf and it is clear that the veteran’s inclusion adds to the legacy of the golf tournament which has seen various famous winners who displayed some great golfing skills.
