Collegiate Challenge Cup

The Dick’s Sporting Good Collegiate Challenge Cup is a thing that college golf has not seen earlier. It is interesting enough to estimate the interest of 5 SEC and ACC teams for the very first event. Music City Bowl is a football match between the 2 conferences each year. The present relationship among the conferences, the council as well as ESPN triggered an idea at The Golf Club of Tennessee for a college golf event.

Nashville Sports Council’s president Scott Ramsey told that their goal is to bring sporting events to the city that have an impact. After 7 years of redevelopments at the club – now The Golf Club of Tennessee needed to see how some of the top college players in the region would do on the improved and new Tom Fazio plan.

With Collegiate Challenge Cup afoot, with 5 teams each from SEC and ACC, there are 2 different titles up for grabs earlier this week. 1st – fifty four hole stroke play contest is set for the next 2 days, with team and individual team winners crowned. On Sunday, usual ACC and SEC rivals will team up with each another to attempt and bring down the other conference in a match play event.

The Golf Club of Tennessee’s General Manager Todd Heifner told that 2 events in one is the way they were looking at it. This is quite different compared to any other event the squads play in.

The football season is drawing to a finale though there is plenty of sport remaining, in particular betting on the play-offs and the FA Cup. Will the winner be Wigan or Manchester City? At 4/1 the smart money could well be on the former.

Betting on Murray winning Wimbledon this year is going to be very popular and the odds of 11/4 on him doing so are a little on the short side. He may be well motivated, have the crowd behind him, and already have one grand slam tucked away in his tennis shorts, but can he really beat the masterful Novak Djokovic in a Wimbledon final? Our money is on the Serb.

With the flat season beginning, there will be a renewed interest in classic racing and the bookmakers are expecting another bumper year despite the recent scandal over the Godolphin stables and illicit steroids. The first Classic is the 2000 Guineas on 5th May followed by the 1000 Guineas, the Oaks and the Derby. Dawn Approach will win the 2000 Guineas; you can bet on it.

Unfortunately the long term weather forecast is suggesting that June will be particularly wet, and the whole summer might be a washout; so factor this in to your betting strategy. For instance there are likely to be a number of drawn cricket matches this season. Royal Ascot could also be a washout, but it’s worth the risk if you take an umbrella; there is nothing like the thrill of on-course betting. Read more “Popular sporting events”

Furyk speaks about his 2012

For golfer Jim Furyk, the PGA season 2012 season was not that good – with several meltdowns and back to back losses. Still Jim did not stop from speaking about all the painful loses with a leading golf magazine.

He admitted that this was the most depressing interview he has ever given to anyone. Davis Love III had famously told the magazine that Jim was probably only 3 swings from being a Player of the Year nominee, but Jim answered that, whilst he is trying to take that as a compliment – that he is so close to the top of the game – he struggles to see past the fact that he game consistently let him down time and again last season.
